Simon studied Economics at the University of Warwick. Having qualified as a chartered accountant, Simon spent ten years working in the pharmaceutical industry for Boehringer Mannheim in their offices in Amsterdam, Bermuda, London and Luxembourg. Simon's next move was into the media industry, working first for Times Mirror Inc as their international Chief Financial Officer and then for Harcourt General Inc in a similar role.
In June 2000 Simon joined The National Magazine Company as Group Finance Director and was promoted to General Manager and Finance Director in April 2004. In this role Simon manages manufacturing, information services, finance, facilities and legal services. In addition, Simon has played a significant role in M&A, with the acquisition of Gruner + Jahr in August 2000, Aim Publications in December 2000, the creation of the NatMag-Rodale and ACP-NatMag joint ventures in April 2004 and December 2004 respectively, and the two recent internet acquisitions Netdoctor and Handbag in 2006.
As well as a Fellow of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales Simon sits on the editorial advisory board of the Journal of Applied Accounting Research.
A keen runner and keep fit enthusiast, Simon is married to Alison and they have three children James, Edward and Imogen.
