A must-have for all fashion conscious men and women, the special issues - on sale Thursday August 6 - reinforce the magazines' commitment to pushing creative boundaries while providing rare, exclusive editorial content. Both titles will be available on the newsstands and will be collectors' items. Both special issues are for sale at their normal cover price - Harper's Bazaar (£3.99) and Esquire (£4.25).
Esquire's is a particularly special issue as it will be the first monthly magazine to publish a luxurious hardback on the newsstands. The hardback issue, celebrating the suit, will be available on newsstands in London and the South-east. Esquire, which launched in March 1991, also produced a limited edition pinstripe fabric slipcover for the magazine, designed by Ralph Lauren. The slipcover was produced for V.I.P guests at a launch party for Esquire's Singular SuitExhibition on Wednesday night (July 29).
The September issue also features a unique photographic portfolio of suits designed for the magazine's Singular Suit exhibition which opens at Somerset House in London today. Esquire asked 18 leading fashion designers and tailors, including Dolce and Gabbana, Donatella Versace, Christopher Bailey at Burberry, Frida Giannini at Gucci and Giorgio Armani, to collaborate with a major artist of their choice to create a bespoke, one-off suit that represent their skills and artistic vision. Their efforts have culminated in an extraordinary array of pieces, from the wearable to the outlandish.
Esquire Editor, Jeremy Langmead says. "The special portfolio, the amazing exhibition at Somerset House and the luxury of a hardback cover for the magazine, let alone the support we've had from the world's most influential artists and fashion designers, has made this a thrilling issue to work on. We're so proud to have been able to unite so many creative forces under one roof with the Singular Suit project. After all, a well cut suit is the perfect battledress to face the slings and arrows that 2009 has thrown our way."
For its September issue, Harper's Bazaar magazine has produced a supersize, 330 page, special fashion issue saluting strong, inspirational women and ‘female resilience'.
The intelligent glossy magazine features indepth interviews with fashion designer Stella McCartney (photographed by her sister Mary McCartney), CNN's chief international correspondent, Christiane Amanpour, supermodel Natalia Vadianova and self styled ‘feminist man', film director and writer Pedro Almadovar who talks about his love of strong women on screen. Film star, Penelope Cruz, also talks to Harper's Bazaar about her working relationship with Almadovar.
Harper's Bazaar also commissioned the partners and husbands of some of the most saavy British women to write about their relationships. They include Harold Evans on author Tina Brown, Playwright David Hare on Nicole Farhi, Andreas Kronthaler on fashion designer Vivienne Westwood and photographer Scott Douglas on Tracey Emin.
Accompanied by beautiful photographs and pages of the latest fashion trends, Harper's Bazaar's September issue is an inspirational read for today's modern woman.
The September issue of Harper's Bazaar is 330 x 245mm. The magazine is usually 290 x 215mm. Harper's Bazaar last produced a supersize in March 2009.
Harper's Bazaar Editor Lucy Yeomans say, "2009 has been an exciting year for women - one in which, in the midst of financial chaos and political gloom, female resilience has risen to the fore. Our supersize special fashion issue plays homage to the rise of this uniquely potent female order with strong images, intimate interviews with some of the world's most dynamic and inspiration women and an indepth look at the new season's bold looks."
Publishing Director of the Luxury Group (Harper's Bazaar and Esquire), Tess Macleod-smith says: "Both titles have burst on to the busy fashion scene with bold, big and dynamic issues that stand out from their competitors. The special issues reinforce our commitment to pushing boundaries, to being one step ahead of the competition, to offering exciting and fantastic platforms for advertisers and to making sure that our readers are constantly inspired by the amazing content these magazines offer."
The September issues of Harper's Bazaar and Esquire are on sale August 6.
