What is your career background?
I got my first magazine job at NatMag nine years ago. I did work experience at Zest for six months and when a vacancy in the fashion and beauty department came up, I applied and eventually got the job. I left NatMag in 2000 to go to IPC, then went freelance for a few years, but came back to NatMag just over two years ago, to be Zest's Beauty Editor.
What attracted you to NatMag?
The first time around, it was the first publishing company to offer me a work experience placement and I found it a really warm, encouraging and exciting environment so was thrilled to be able to stay on in a permanent position. The second time, I was happy to come back because so many of the people I'd worked with before (from editorial on Zest to security and post room) were still here. NatMag feels a little bit like home to me.
What does you role involve?
Writing, styling and editing Zest's 15-page beauty section, with the help of a Beauty Assistant. Building up a good relationship with the beauty PRs is a big part of the job, so I spend a lot of time out of the office at launches and lunches, and have travelled all over the world to shoot our beauty stories.
What is the best thing about working for NatMag?
It's one of the friendliest companies I've ever worked for.
